Laura and Curtis met when they attended the same high school. Laura liked Curtis, but it wasn’t until they were both studying at Michigan State together that she finally said to Curtis, “Are you going to ask me out or what?” Much to all of their mutual friends delight, he did and the two of them were married this past weekend in a gorgeous ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth followed by the most classic and elegant Lovett Hall wedding reception in Dearborn, MI at The Henry Ford Museum!
Photographing a Lovett Hall wedding had been on the top of my list of wedding venues to shoot at for the longest time and it did not disappoint! I love a good ballroom, and Lovett Hall has one of the best in Michigan. Henry Ford built it for his wife so they could throw parties and fun fact, it has a springboard floor to help with leg fatigue so he and his guests could dance the night away! Laura and Curtis’s family and friends took full advantage of this and the dance floor was packed all night long! If you love history, character, and museums, make you you scroll through all of the images because Lovett Hall was filled to the brim with all of that! From the grand staircase, chandeliers and the museum hallway to Henry Ford’s gorgeous library that looks like a scene straight out of Beauty & The Beast, these backdrops served as the most perfect spots for wedding photos of Curtis and Laura!
After a gorgeous cocktail hour inside the ivy covered walls of the garden outside, guests headed inside to the ballroom for the reception. Curtis’s dad kicked things off with a great speech, teasing Curtis a bit about how long it took him to ask Laura out. Their best man and maid of honor had the room laughing with fun tales about the two of them! It was Laura’s dad, however, that brought the whole room to tears recounting the story of Laura’s adoption and just how loved she was and how perfect Curtis was for her. It was so evident not only during the toasts, but also during the day just how much Laura and Curtis’s friends and family loved and cherished them. In the morning after the girls got their hair and make-up done at the salon, they presented Laura with a scrapbook containing a page each of them had made highlighting their friendship with Laura! Laura, of course, had something thoughtful to give to them, a cute candle, matching Kate Spade earrings for them all to wear and Sugarfina gummies, as well as a handwritten note. Her sweet notes caused a few girls to tear up and proclaim they had to wait to read it until after the wedding so they wouldn’t ruin their make-up! They also had a ton of college friends at the wedding and one on the highlights of the dance floor was when the DJ played AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, aka the song that Michigan State Football runs out onto the field to, and they formed a massive circle on the dance floor playing their favorite tailgating game! Late night Detroit style coney dogs were served and the night ended on a high note!
Laura & Curtis, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you both over the past year! From your fun Detroit engagement session (with only one balloon casualty ;)) to exchanging email about wedding plans, thank you from the bottom of my heart for inviting me in and allowing me to capture your beautiful day!
