Jessica & Brennon were married this past Saturday at the historic Colony Club in Downtown Detroit. The Colony Club is one of my favorite venues (that blush toned ballroom and those ornate golden chandeliers ?) and it never disappoints! A string quartet played as Jessica’s dad walked her down the aisle towards a waiting Brennon. Brennon’s dad officiated the ceremony and after reciting their vows to one another and exchanging rings, they were pronounced husband and wife and the party got started!! The band Newsmaker had the dance floor hopping all night & they even brought Brennon up on stage to play a song with them!!
Earlier in the day, Jessica met Brennon at the Detroit Institute of Arts for their first look. First looks are my favorite for so many reasons, especially seeing the sweet smiles (or tears) on the grooms faces and the fact that we can take all of the portraits before the wedding so that the couple can visit with their guests during cocktail hour! Jessica’s dress was actually made up of 4 separate pieces, a lace bodysuit, a silk skirt, lace skirt top and a sheer overlay skirt, and I just loved the way all of the layers (and her gorgeous cathedral length lace veil) flowed during portraits! For the reception, Jessica took off the top 2 layers of the skirt and had her hairstylist pin her hair up into a sleek chignon so she could dance the night away! I just love how these small changes gave her a totally different look in their sunset portraits! This is the second wedding I’ve done lately where the bride had a different dress or look for the reception & I’m here for it!! Such a fun way to switch things up! The night ended with a sparkler exit as the street lights in downtown Detroit twinkled.
