Even though this is wedding number 4 of 2019 for me, it’s the one that officially kicks off the 2019 wedding season for me! It’s all weddings, all the time from here on out and I cannot wait!! Monica and Minan’s Lovett Hall wedding was this past Saturday and despite some rain in the morning and early afternoon, the weather cleared up and they had a beautiful day! And you know what they say, rain on a wedding day is good luck!! Their wedding day started at Cass Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Detroit and it may be my new absolute favorite church. I couldn’t believe I had never even heard of it before. The entry hallway into the church was STUNNING and reminded me of the architecture in the hallways of the palaces I was in in Spain last month. In side the church were two massive stained Tiffany (yes, from the same man whose family founded Tiffany & Co.) stained glass windows. Tiffany glass is always next level and they are definitely a jewel that more people need to see! Monica & Minan met while in school at Rutgers in NJ and Monica is originally from Texas, so their guests flew in from around the country to be with them on their wedding day and you could feel the love filling the church as these two said I do. After a beautiful ceremony, Monica & Minana made their grand exit from the church with bubbles (!!!!) and everyone headed over to Lovett Hall to celebrate!!
We took bride & groom portraits in the iconic Henry Ford Museum stairwell and even though I’ve photographed countless couples in this stairwell, I switched things up and played with some new angles & I loved the photographs we were able to create here! It also doesn’t hurt that these two are gorgeous and I’m pretty sure it would be impossible to take a bad photo of them!! Their bridal party was so fun (Monica’s girls were seriously THE sweetest and I had a blast hanging out with them) and made taking portraits a breeze! Plus, they nailed the Vanity Fair esque Lovett Hall wedding party shot we took!
Arabic dancers and drummers greeted guests with a performance when they arrived into the ballroom & a Mariachi band serenaded all of the tables at dinner! This was one of the ways that Monica & Minan honored their two cultures during the day and I thought it was such a special touch that all of their guests enjoyed!
Monica & Minan, thank YOU for trusting me to be the one to document this beautiful day for the two of you!! I have enjoyed getting to know you both over this past year, from coffee to an epic Detroit city streets engagement session, and I hope you love and cherish these photographs for the decades to come!
